SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan and SDLP Derry City Councillor Shauna Cusack have congratulated those involved in upgrade works at an ancient L'Derry walkway which they say has been 'completely transformed'.
The SDLP politicians were speaking about the "greatly anticipated and hard fought for" re-development work at Lowry's Lane.
Mr Durkan said: "I am delighted to see the completion of these long campaigned for and long overdue improvements to Lowry's Lane. Since I entered local politics the land has been a 'hot topic', but it is great to see it in for the right reasons. With the progress on the Gaelic pitch clearly evident, this whole environment has been improved and I would like to thank all who have played a part in this arduous process."
Cllr Cusack said: "I would like to thank all those involved in securing the success of this project to swift completion. The contractors and managers have been fantastic throughout the process. They listened to and been sympathetic to the suggestions and needs of local residents. I have witnessed them engaging with the public, demonstrating design plans and patiently answering their queries.
"As a resident of the area I am looking forward to enjoying this ancient walkway, which is now completely transformed. The Lane, which flows through Hatmore and Kylemore, had become overgrown and dark with a hazardous, uneven pathway. After extensive resurfacing, replanting, light installation, gating and fencing it should appeal to anyone to use for the health benefits of walking and cycling."
