Contracts Signed By Wind Energy Firms To Be Questioned

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Ferris TD, has said he will ask Minister Simon Coveney about the conditions of contracts being signed by farmers with wind energy companies for the erection of turbines on their land.

Deputy Ferris has tabled a question to the Minister, which will be answered in the Dáil on 11 February 2014.

He said: "I have been approached by some people who are concerned about the small print in these contracts.

"I have tabled the question so the Minister might address the issue. I have heard concern expressed about the succession rights of those who have signed up and about the control of the wind turbine companies on land use.

"Due to the effect which such stipulations might have on farmers and their land, I have submitted the following question to the minister for oral answer in the Dáil next week."
