Lagan Valley Ulster Unionists have welcomed the news that contractors have been appointed to construct a new pedestrian footbridge at Moira Train Station.
Councillor Brian Bloomfield, Alderman Jim Dillon, Alex Redpath and Alex Swan joined Transport Minister Danny Kennedy at the station as he announced the investment of almost £400,000.
The project aims to enhance rail customer facilities by enabling passengers to safely cross railway tracks when level crossing barriers are down in order to catch their train on time. The work, which will be carried out by Mallusk based Building & Civil Engineering Contractors McLaughlin and Harvey, is due for completion by the summer.
Speaking on behalf of Lagan Valley Ulster Unionists Alexander Redpath said: "Ulster Unionists are committed to supporting and developing public transport and public transport facilities. As someone who has used this station on occasions I appreciate how useful the addition of this pedestrian bridge will be. This welcome investment of some £400,000 is great news for people in Moira and the surrounding area."
