Work has commenced on a €500m project to supply Dublin with water from the River Shannon, it has been reported.
Irish Water has said it is now looking for tenders for a survey specialist to examine the water quality at both Lough Derg and the Parteen Basin. This is where the water for the project will be sourced.
The company has said that potential tenders will only have 10 days to submit a bid for the project.
Upon completion of the project, some 350 million litres a day will come from Shannon to be used as drinking water in Dublin.
