Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that the £190,000 improvement scheme on C552 'Five Mile Straight' from Glenshane to the Brackaghreilly Road is set to move into its second phase.
Mr Kennedy said: "This is a significant investment and will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of these busy routes within the Mid-Ulster area."
Preliminary work started on the stretch of road known as the 'Five Mile Straight' this week.
The scheme, which is expected to take a total of four weeks to complete, will require a road closure for one week to facilitate the laying of the final surfacing.
To help minimise any inconvenience to road users and the wider local communities, the majority of the work is scheduled to be completed using lane closures. However, to help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, road closures will be necessary from 24 to 29 March.
