Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has confirmed his commitment to begin a consultation exercise on potential traffic calming measures on Lang's Road, Armagh.

The scheme includes proposals to install five speed ramps along the stretch of road to the rear of the Gaol which is frequently used by motorists as a route to the Newry Road following the removal of a security barrier several years ago.

Mr Kennedy said: "Following representation from the public I initiated a further review of this site for potential traffic calming measures. This work highlighted an increase in traffic speed and volume and as a result, the priority of the works in this location has increased.

"It is now intended to carry out a consultation exercise as part of the required statutory process in the coming weeks. If the consultation delivers a positive outcome, work could begin as early as May."
