Roads To Be Resurfaced In Armagh

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced a £500,000 investment in the roads network in Armagh city.

Resurfacing work has already started in Irish Street and is expected to take place until the end of May. Once work on Irish Street is finished, work will begin on the Friary Road.

The Minister said: "This is a significant investment of half a million pounds which will help improve the structural condition of the main arterial routes from the south and west of Armagh city."

Work has already been carried out on Irish Street from the junction with Navan Street and Ogle Street to the A3 Killylea Road slip Road and further work is planned on Irish Street from St Malachy's Church to the A3 Monaghan Road. This work will be carried out in stages with preparation work from 7 April until 16 April, followed by a break over the Easter period and recommencing on 28 April until 2 May. This work requires a road closure for Armagh city bound traffic. Appropriate diversion routes for this closure have been designed and diversion signs will be erected.

The diversion for cross border traffic coming from Monaghan will be along the B210 Coolkill Road from Middletown towards Caledon and onwards to Armagh on the A28 Killylea Road. For traffic travelling from Keady, the diversion will be along the B3 Tassagh Road and B3 Coolmillish Road and for traffic coming from Newtownhamilton along the B31 Coolmillish Road at Ferlagh Cross Roads to Markethill and onwards to Armagh along the A28 Newry Road.

The final surfacing of Irish Street will require a full road closure and this work is currently expected to be carried out between 12 and 25 May. Again, appropriate diversion routes will be designed and signs erected.
