Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed news that the Taoiseach Enda Kenny is finally prepared to support the Narrow Water Bridge project.
Ms Ruane said: "Sinn Féin has stated from the beginning that this was a doable project.
"There is no reason therefore why we cannot get the project back on track by the autumn with the news that Taoiseach Enda Kenny has finally endorsed it.
"We now have all the major parties North and South reiterating their support for the bridge so we now need to return to ring fencing funding from Europe.
"With a funding round coming in June there is no reason why we cannot have the Special European Union Programme Body back on board by then and get money allocated to the project.
"This is a major infrastructural project, which will open up the entire North Louth and South Down region to tourism and commerce."
