Ciarán Lynch, TD for Cork South Central and Labour Party Spokesperson on Housing, has welcomed the government's announcement to invest €30m for the redevelopment of Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork.
Mr Lynch said: "The planned state-of-the-art stadium will accommodate 45,000 spectators as well as housing a range of first-class amenities such as catering and conference facilities. This cash injection by the government will allow the refurbishment start imminently, and is set to create 400 construction jobs in the process.
"Once completed, Pairc Ui Chaoimh will not only be able to offer superior sporting facilities but also will be a modern outdoor arena and provide ample space for concerts and major events.
"Offering an alternative to Croke Park, it's high time that the Southern capital has a world-class stadium of its own. Pairc Ui Chaoimh will be such a facility that we can be proud of – and to its redevelopment I say – Game on!"
