Alliance Antrim Councillor Alan Lawther has welcomed the proposal outlined by the Regional Development Minister for a rail link to Belfast International Airport.
The plans form part of the Railway Prioritisation Investment Strategy.
Councillor Alan Lawther said: "This is very welcome news that a rail link to Belfast International Airport has been included in these proposals for investment in the rail network. I believe that this rail link will be vital as we look to increase investment and tourism in Northern Ireland.
"The International Airport must be one of the few major airports that doesn't currently have a rail link. This must be rectified if we are to improve our international image and entice more people out of their cars. It would also be good for the local economy if approval is given for this rail link."
