A significant water main rehabilitation project is being carried out in Athlone by Westmeath County Council.
The project will will replace and upgrade the existing distribution network.
Work on the scheme started this week and will be completed by October 2014.
The works in the town will be phased for the period from 26 May and include:
• Gang Number 1: Pipe laying on Blyry Road to Garrycastle Interchange and Garrycastle Bridge
• Gang Number 2: Pipe laying in Beechpark
• Gang Number 3: Pipe laying in Iona's Park/St Columba's Terrace and Roscommon Road
• Gang Number 4: Pipe laying on Coosan Point Road/Southern Station Road
• Gang Number 5: Service connections on Arcadia and Montree.
In a statement, the council added that the reinstatement placed on pipe trenches and service connections by the contractor is temporary. When the anticipated settlement of the trench material has occurred, the contractor will then return and carry out permanent reinstatement including final surfacing.
