The development of a new Japanese garden in County Waterford has begun.
The garden in Tramore will commemorate writer and translator Patrick Lafcadio Hearn.
Labour TD Ciara Conway welcomed the beginning of the project and 10 new jobs have also been announced.
She said: "Ambassador Chihiro Atsumi who attended the event was delighted to be present for the sod turning and praised the amount of work that has gone into commemorating this great Japanese Literary figure who may not be as well known in Ireland as he is to schoolchildren in Japan. Equally impressed with the project was the newly appointed Irish Ambassador to Japan, Anne Barrington, who spoke very highly of the work that has been done to develop links between the beautiful coastal town of Tramore and Japan.
"This project is an example of how communities working together can achieve great things."
