Roads Service cuts are being considered by Transport Minister Danny Kennedy.
Sinn Féin MP Francie Molloy has expressed concern over the proposed cuts and said that the reduction in road repairs could cost lives.
Mr Molloy said: "Recent flooding across the Mid Ulster constituency was severe, particularly around Magherafelt and Moneymore, and electric supplies are off-line in many other areas.
"The minister is quite aware of the problems that arise following torrential rain with our drainage systems too often unable to cope with it.
"I am therefore concerned to hear reports that Minister Kennedy is contemplating cutting back on clearing gullies, street lighting repairs and other maintenance as a result of budgetary pressures."
