A farmer has been fined £600 plus £28 in court costs for making a polluting discharge to a waterway.
Brendan McBride had Water Quality Inspectors (WQIs) acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) inspecting his farm premises and observed a milky discharge flowing to the waterway from a pipe.
The WQIs observed dirty water in the storm drain and this was also discharging to the waterway. Approximately 700 metres of waterway was affected by the discharges.
Samples taken at the time of the incident confirmed that the discharges contained poisonous, noxious or polluting matter which was potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving waterway.
