Sinn Féin is calling on the PSNI to use more resources to stop the rising crime against farmers and heavy plant equipment.
Sinn Féin Agriculture Minister Oliver McMullan MLA said: "The latest report from the National Famers Union (NFU) that shows that there has been a 15% increase in crime against farmers vindicates the position Sinn Féin took in demanding a separate PSNI unit to deal with this type of crime.
"Over the past year we have seen the planned stealing of livestock and heavy plant equipment on the rise as well as opportune criminals targeting sheds and farmyards.
"However the unit consist of only four people and if we are serious about tackling crime against the farming community then more resources need to be given to this unit."
