Lisburn City Council has slammed the Environment Minister's decision approving a mixed-use development at a former mill in Edenderry Village.

In a statement, the Council said: "The Council is very disheartened that this application is proposed for approval as it is not compatible with character of this picturesque village in the Lagan Valley Regional Park nor does it adhere to the design concepts in the Council's Lagan Corridor Development Framework.

"For the past nine years Elected Representatives of the Council have been supporting the local residents and their concerns about this proposed development."

The Planning Committee also agreed that Minister Mark H Durkan needs to be informed of the issues surrounding the application and the Council will be writing to him to inform him of the serious, detrimental impact on the environment of this application.
