New planning reforms unveiled will boost employment in the construction sector, the Minister for Business and Employment, Gerald Nash TD, has announced.
Minister Alan Kelly outlined the proposed new legislation, which will see 10% of units in new housing schemes set aside for social housing.
Minister Nash said: "These measures introduced by my colleague Minister Alan Kelly today will encourage developers to begin work much more quickly on sites which have been zoned for development. This will result in more much needed jobs in the construction sector.
"I am also very pleased to see that developers will have to provide up to 10% of their housing units for social housing, and will no longer be able to 'buy' their way out of commitments to social housing provision."
