Two Sinn Féin MEPs attended a day of global action against fracking outside the European Parliament in Brussels.
Matt Carthy and Martina Anderson stood with the other anti-fracking and outlined Sinn Féins opposition to hydraulic fracturing.
Mr Carthy said: "Fracking has become a major issue in Ireland. We have stood with communities in Fermanagh and Leitrim against fracking and we will continue to oppose it in Mayo and other areas that have been flagged as potential fracking sites.
"The risks of fracking for shale gas include contamination of ground water and exposing people and livestock to dangerous chemicals, as well the potential destruction of land for farming use and threats to biodiversity."
