Cork City Council Slammed For Failing To Select Site For New Centre

Labour has slammed Cork City Council for failing to choose a site for the development of a new convention centre.

This means funding for the project will have to wait until next year.

Labour TD Ciaran Lynch said the Government remained committed to providing €10m towards the scheme, however the monies will not be drawn down in 2014.

He is calling for Cork City Council to "get its act together" and the delay on the decision is "completely unacceptable".

He concluded: "The construction element of this project alone would serve to kick-start the local economy, and once it is completed, the convention centre will be an economic driver for the entire region and will provided much-needed business for ancillary businesses and services such as hotels and restaurants."
