The Spatial NI team at Land Property Services (LPS) has paired up with Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) to give its consumers more access to information about the 11,000V (11kV) electricity network.
The new interactive overhead line mapping tool shows the location of NIE's 11kV network, allowing customers interested in installing a renewable generator to work out how near they are to an 11kV line and substation.
The 11KV network spans the country, mainly on a network of wood poles and overhead lines and most small scale renewable generators will connect to an 11kV circuit to allow the energy generated to be exported back onto the grid.
Michael Atkinson, NIE Head of Generation Connections, said: "At NIE we have been working to provide renewable developers with additional information on the potential capacity of the network. This map shows the accurate location of the rural electricity network at 11kV, giving developers greater visibility of the network in their local area. The online mapping tool gives an indication of how close the proposed generation site is to the existing network, as well as the distance to the nearest primary substation."
The map can be accessed via the NIE website.
