The Single Electricity Market Committee has announced it is to reform the European Union's drive for an integrated electricity market across Europe.
The Committee is responsible for overseeing the wholesale electricity market across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster said: "In some ways we have no choice but to reform our market to comply with wider EU goals. However I was interested to hear how new market arrangements could promote competition, stimulate innovation, bolster security of supply, help us make best use of renewable generation and bring down costs for consumers.
"I fully support the Committee in pursuing these goals. They reflect my own priorities for Northern Ireland and I look forward to seeing the Committee clarify these benefits."
