Deputy Martin Ferris said the water infrastructure needs serious attention.
He said: "There are leaks, which are a waste of what is a precious resource, which have not received any attention over the years.

"The lack of attention to repairing infrastructure gives the lie to the claim that water metering is to do with conservation when we all know that the money spent on installing meters would have made a massive improvement to our water systems if it had been spent on repairing the leaks and improving the piping.
"Is there any health and safety consideration being given to this matter?
"In my own constituency, in St Brendan's estate in Tralee, there is lead piping still in existence and high levels of lead in the water."
