The Chief Executive of NI Water has confirmed a drop in water levels at the Killea reservoir in L'Derry should not adversely affect local wildlife in the area.
Under a 'Dam Inspections regime', a contractor was required to drain the reservoir to carry out essential maintenance and safety work.
SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan said: "I was contacted by a concerned constituent who had noticed a significant drop in water levels at the Killea reservoir which is on their doorstep.
"Sara Venning has also stated that a drop in water levels should not adversely affect local wildlife in the area and that the dam at the reservoir should return to normal levels by the end of April 2015."
