Govt Accused Of Facilitating The Rising Number Of Home Repossessions

The Government has been accused of facilitating, through its policies, the increasing number of family home repossession cases in Ireland.

Sinn Féin TD and spokesperson for Finance, Pearse Doherty, said the government has "no interest" in dealing with the repossession crisis.

Deputy Doherty added: "The Central Bank tells us there are 37,484 homes in the most serious of arrears facing legal actions. When these figures were first published in September 2012, there were only 20,000.


"We know this government wants to focus on headline economic growth figures which are debatable. They do not want to engage with issues like people losing their family home or the banks bullying and intimidating the very people that bailed them out.

"The stories of families across the State who are waking up every morning in fear of losing their home does not fit into the Fine Gael narrative."
