Northern Ireland Environment Minister has been commended for keeping a large area at Upper Dunmurry Lane in Belfast as an open public space.
Minister Mark H Durkan confirmed the area will not be used for construction and will be offered to the Belfast City Council for public use.
SDLP Belfast Councillor Brian Heading said the confirmation is very welcome news for residents of the Colin area.
Cllr Heading said: "The Minister has rightly identified that building on this area would risk overdevelopment, increasing traffic in the area whilst depriving locals of a valuable green space.
"An achievement such as this is vindication for residents and representatives who made their voices heard and lobbied to save this local asset. I and my SDLP colleagues will now seek to enhance the area for recreational use.'
