Fianna Fáil is calling for a new primary school to be developed in Sixmilebridge, Co Clare, as the current school is "unfit for purpose".
Cllr Timmy Dooley said the delay in delivering the new school building is damaging children's education. The Clare TD is urging the government to allocate the necessary funding to ensure construction on the school project can get underway immediately.
Deputy Dooley said: "The need for a new school building for the primary school in Sixmilebridge has been flagged for a long time. The population in the area has been increasing over the last decade with more and more young people needing to be accommodated at the local primary school.
"The go ahead for the construction of a new primary school building in Sixmilebridge was given under the last government. However despite this the people of Sixmilebridge are still waiting for construction to get underway. The government has not moved to provide the necessary funding to allow the project to proceed.
"What is needed now is for funding to be allocated by the government."
