The Minister responsible for Gaeltacht affairs has confirmed that there will be no funding for the Gaeltacht Community Roads Scheme.
Sinn Féin Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh expressed his disappointment over the admission of Joe McHugh, and questioned the Minister on the scheme in the Seanad today.
Senator Ó Clochartaigh said: "I raised the question in the context of community roads and access to bogs, quays, graveyards and so forth.
"It appears that he does not see that the Department of the Gaeltacht has a role in relation to the upkeep of these community resources to provide access for locals and to keep the communities in the areas alive.
"He says he understands the economic and tourism values of these roads however and he said he would contact the Minister for Tourism, Pascal Donoghue to see if his Department could help in any way."
