Supreme Court Decision Will Have Major Impact On NI Housing - McCann

The Supreme Court in Britain has found that a London woman has the right to be rehoused in accommodation close to her children's schools

Sinn Fein housing spokesperson Fra McCann believes this will have a major impact on the housing situation in Northern Ireland.

Mr McCann said: "Many applicants have turned down homes offered by local providers of social housing which were not situated close to facilities like schools.


"I have argued the need of applicants to be housed close to schools and other facilities to meet their children's educational and other needs.

"This has often not been accepted by housing providers here as a valid reason to turn down a house.

"We await the release of the full judgement to determine the direction housing providers will have to travel when evaluating the local needs of housing applicants."
