€700,000 of funding has been secured to restore the Multiniboyle Bridge outside Glenties in Donegal.
Fine Gael TD for Donegal, Dinny McGinley, has welcomed the allocation.
Mr McGinley said: "Multiniboyle Bridge outside Glenties collapsed into the river five years ago as it could no longer handle the volume of traffic it had to carry. The loss of this bridge has been a huge inconvenience to local people, businesses and farmers in the area.
"With Multiniboyle Bridge out of action, motorists have been left with no choice but to take a diversion of over 15km around Glenties.
"I am delighted to hear that funding of just under €700,000 has been allocated to repair the bridge. Minister Donohoe recognised the impact that the collapse of the bridge has had on the people of the locality and his Department has made the funding available to repair the bridge."
