Fianna Fáil is calling on Minister Alan Kelly to tackle the growing waiting list problem for housing in Laois.

Sean Fleming TD said he welcomed the recent housing announcement, however he said it is "not ambitious enough".

Deputy Fleming said: "The plan outlined by the Government is lacking in detail and is simply not ambitious enough. Most new housing units won't become available until the end of 2017 at the very earliest. In the meantime the housing list in Laois continues to grow on a daily basis. The Government should be focusing on delivering housing in the immediate future rather than setting vague timelines.

"The Government made numerous announcements in advance of the local elections in May 2014 that remain unfulfilled. A repeat of this cannot be allowed this time around."
