Irish Water has announced a partnership with Wicklow County Council to invest €0.85 million in the replacement and rehabilitation of three water reservoirs at Lamberton, Arklow.
M.J.S. Civil Engineering has been awarded the contract with works to start in April with a contract duration of twelve months.
The existing reservoirs require urgent attention to address structural defects and extend the service life of each. The new and upgraded reservoirs will improve the water supply infrastructure for over 13,000 customers in Arklow Town and the surrounding areas.
A new reservoir will be constructed to replace one of the underground reservoirs which dates from the 1930's and is in poor condition. A second underground reservoir which was built in the 1980’s will also be refurbished to address extensive deterioration, this will include the application of a waterproof coating system to the reservoir walls, floor and roof.
A third above ground reservoir, the Lamberton Water Tower, was constructed in the 1970's and is also showing signs of significant deterioration with leaking evident. Refurbishment of the tower reservoir will include sealing and bonding of identified cracks and failing joints and the application of a waterproof coating system.
