Improvement work started today, Monday, on the Castlereagh Road in east Belfast.
DARD Rivers Agency is warning of disruption to traffic in East Belfast as works to replace the existing under-capacity Loop River culvert commence in the area between the Grand Parade / Ladas Drive junction and the Tesco
The road crossing for this on-line culvert replacement forms part of the overall East Belfast Flood Alleviation Scheme (EBFAS) being undertaken on behalf of DARD Rivers Agency in order to provide increased protection to areas that are currently at risk of flooding from rivers and the sea. The capacity of the existing Loop River culvert under the Castlereagh Road will be increased and in addition flood walls will be constructed upstream where required.
Work on the Castlereagh Road element of the scheme will be carried out in two phases. Works shall commence on the country-bound half of the road and shall be followed immediately by works in the city-bound direction. The work is expected to be completed within 21 weeks.
