Newry Firm Fined For Exporting Contaminated Plastic Waste

A firm based in Newry has been fined £500 for exporting contaminated plastic waste.

Regen Waste Ltd pleaded guilty at Belfast Magistrates' Court and intended to export the plastic waste to China.

On 7 February 2014 officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) conducted an inspection of a container due to be exported from Belfast Port. A second container, also due to be exported to China, was inspected on 11 February 2014.

Both containers were found to contain mixed waste and were being exported in contravention of the EU Waste Shipment Regulations 1013/2006.
