Over £570,000 in funding has been secured for a scheme to upgrade pedestrian and cycling facilities at the A2 in Bangor.
The £575,000 project at Gransha Road Roundabout is scheduled to begin in June 2015.
The scheme includes the provision of full traffic signal control on the roundabout with spiral road markings and upgraded street lighting.
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy said: "My Department is committed to improving both road safety and traffic management on the road network. The provision of these new controlled PUFFIN and TOUCAN crossings, will improve road safety for pedestrians and in particular vulnerable road users such as children, the elderly and those with a disability and will be of great benefit to everyone accessing the local schools.
"This significant investment forms part of the strategy to improve active school travel and cycling facilities in Bangor. The scheme will include links to a new shared cycle/footway to the local grammar school. Further works will then link the footway and cycleway network to the existing cycle facilities on Balloo Road."
