The Comber Masterplan, aimed at redeveloping the town centre, has been launched.
Social Development Minister, Mervyn Storey MLA, introduced the plan which sets out a range of proposals for re-developing the town centre over a period of 15-20 years.
The plans include:
• Extending the Comber Greenway and promoting a community woodland, planting allotments and a rustic play area
• Creating an urban area within the park that will include a BMX track, new outdoor fitness facilities and walking/cycling trails to create a riverside environment
• Extending the linear park towards Strangford Lough and including facilities such as a small harbour, look-out points, interpretation boards and boardwalks
• Promoting and enhancing the production and sale of quality foods, arts and crafts through the development of community allotments and promoting the growth of local enterprise.
Minister Storey said: "This Masterplan sets out an exciting vision for the future of Comber town centre which will assist with the development opportunities and regeneration plans for the town.
"I firmly believe that as ratepayers it is important that members of the local community have their voices heard when it comes to developing plans for their local area.
"It is evident from the consultation responses that the people of Comber took time to view and comment on the proposals, and were clear about what they wanted and the actions that needed to be taken to drive forward and build upon the regeneration works currently going on in the town."
