A Fianna Fáil Bill to redevelop the national monument at Moore Street in Dublin is to be debated in the Seanad.
The Bill is to be introduced by Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Dublin, Darragh O'Brien.
It has the support of the Save Moore Street Committee, the 1916 Relatives Group and the Moore Street traders. Representatives of these groups will be in attendance for the debate this afternoon.
Senator O'Brien said: "This Bill is in response to the Government's failure to halt the decline of the Moore Street Area and recognise its historical significance.
"The Fianna Fáil team in Dublin has worked closely with local traders and campaigners to come up with a solution that both rejuvenates this urban area, and protects it as a national monument.
"The historic buildings associated with the 1916 Rising from 14 to 17 Moore street are currently in a state of great disrepair. The site is the birthplace of the Republic and it must be honoured and promoted as such.
"This means going much further than just carrying out emergency repair works when the buildings are in danger of collapse."
