A new geology field school has officially opened in County Clare.

Developed by the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, in collaboration with Caherconnell Archaeological Field School and NUI Galway, the Burren Geology Field School will teach students about the world-class geology of the Burren and how the region has been changed over millions of years by floods, tsunamis, earthquakes and ice ages.

The School has welcomed its first students, a group from the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Colorado, USA.

"The geology of the Burren and the dramatic changes experienced by the landscape of the region down through the millennia has long been a source of interest for geologists and academics throughout the world," commented Carol Gleeson, Project Manager, Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark.
