€45,000 has been secured for conservation works to be carried out at Tomas O'Criomhthain's house in County Kerry.
Minister for the Diaspora and TD for Kerry, Jimmy Deenihan, welcomed the news.
Mr Deenihan said: "For some time I have been consulting with the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, as well as the OPW to secure funding for the conservation of Tomas O’Criomhthain’s house on Great Blasket Island. I am therefore very pleased that the OPW are proposing to spend €45,000 on the property."
As soon as the work is complete the house is to open for public viewing.
