More than £60,000 has been earmarked to replace new signage throughout L'Derry, it has been announced.

The funding has been provided to the new Derry City and Strabane District Council and will go towards updating the 'Interpretation panels', and the Walled City maps within the city centre.

In total, 28 maps and panels will be renewed, with an additional 14 to be installed on new stands in and around the city. Ascot Signs will undertake the manufacture and installation of the new signs.

It is expected to be completed by 31 October.

Confirming the project, Social Development Minister Mervyn Storey said: "This is an excellent project which will provide new maps and interpretative panels to exhibit the key tourist attractions of Londonderry, including the Peace Bridge and the Peace Flame.

"The new signage will assist the significant number of tourists and local people who choose to explore the City and will enable them to enjoy the many attractions that the City has, while being informed of its rich history."

Councillor Elisha McCallion, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, added: "These high quality maps and interpretative panels will contribute to enhancing the attractiveness of the City Centre's Public Realm, as well as showcasing the City's tourism attractions and providing information about what the City has to offer."
