FF Calls For Sallins Train Station To Be Repaired

Fianna Fail is calling for urgent repairs and maintenance work to be carried out at Sallins train station in Co Kildare.

Kildare North General Election candidate Cllr James Lawless met with Irish Rail officials to raise the concerns of the many passengers who use Sallins & Naas train station.

Cllr Lawless said: "At the meeting Irish Rail officials informed me that a timetable review is currently taking place and a new one is expected to be implemented in early 2016. Draft timetables will be available for the public so as commuters can have their say on the new timetable.

"The punctuality of the 08.19 morning train from Sallins which is almost consistently late needs to be addressed. This has knock on affects for those needing to go to work or make appointments on time in Dublin. Irish Rail have told me that the NTA had a new service running from Cork which has priority on the tracks however they agreed with me to look at this consistent delay and will raise it with their colleagues.

"I also raised the unpleasant conditions when bins had been overflowing and the footbridge remained unsalted for a recent period of time. It was explained by Irish Rail that these issues arose as a combination of sick leave and a contractor who was due to provide cover was misunderstood as to their brief. I also received reassurance that repairs will be made to the footbridge as the surface has become uneven."
