Plans for 90km of continuous motorway/dual carriageway between Dublin and Gorey have been confirmed by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe.
Welcoming the news, Fine Gael TD for Wexford, Liam Twomey, said that it was good news for Wexford commuters.
"This scheme connects the existing Arklow Bypass with the M11 Rathnew/Ashford Bypass and consists of 16 km of dual carriageway, two interchanges at Beehive and Jack White's Crossroads, re-alignment and/or construction of almost 5 km of single carriageway all-purpose road running parallel to the new N11 carriageway as well as five under-bridges and three over-bridges," Deputy Twomey said.
"In further good news, Gorey is also getting a service area meaning there will be 24 hour access to the rest and recuperation facilities needed by those travelling a longer stretch of the route, which is part of a 280km continuous dual carriageway/ motorway between Clogh and Belfast.
"As well as benefitting Wexford commuters, it is hoped that the upgrade of this route will also encourage more visitors to Wexford from other parts of the east coast and Northern Ireland."
