Initial plans ruled out the Cuan an Oir and Dunguaire Haven Estates, Bothar na Mias, and Ard an Mhuilinn from the new public network, however it seems that Irish Water has reversed the decision.
Galway East Michael P. Kitt said: "I contacted Irish Water to ask why these particular estates were being excluded from the sewerage scheme. This would have impacted on a large number of Kinvara residents as more than 45 homes, spread over these estates, would have been affected. There is also planning permission in place for additional units, which would have also been excluded from the scheme. The connection to this new scheme will not only benefit the residents, it will also improve the environmental impact on the surrounding areas.

"The new scheme will intercept untreated wastewater which is currently flowing into the shoreline and provide for secondary treatment. It seemed unfair to residents on the periphery of the town, and dependent on the private treatment plants, to be excluded from the new state of the art public sewerage scheme."
