Irish Water is investing €7.3 million to replace 19.8km of pipeline in Galway.
In partnership with Galway City Council, the works will reduce the amount of water lost through leakage and improve reliability of supply.
Burst pipes, water supply disruptions and poor water pressure, are ongoing problems for Galway's water supply. The project will replace the oldest and the most ineffective water mains in Galway City with new heavy duty polyethylene pipes. Site investigation work will begin this autumn with construction work due to commence at the end of 2016. Sections of water mains in the poorest condition will be replaced first with the project expected to be completed in early 2019.
The proposed water main rehabilitation works will be located in Beach Court, Bru Na Mara, Mincloon, Whitestrand Avenue & Fr. Griffin Road, Glenburren Park, Michael Collins Road, Shantalla, University Road, Canal Road Upper & Distillery Road, Palmyra Avenue, Roscam, Cherry Park & Hazel Park and Coolagh.
