The green light has been given to extend an Irish language school in west Belfast.

Education Minister John O'Dowd approved a development to increase the number of class rooms to at least seven at the Scoil na Fuiseoige in Twinbrook.

Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann welcomed the decision.

She said: "The growth in the number of parents deciding to educate their children through the medium of the Irish language is growing year by year.

"Scoil na Fuiseoige has provided a first-class education for children in the Twinbrook area to an extent that more parents are looking to enroll their children at the school.

"It will also allow the school to meet the criteria for the sustainable schools policy and I have no doubt that the school will continue to flourish in the months and years ahead."
