A new smart thermostat has been launched by Bord Gáis Energy.

The thermostat, named Hive Active Heating, allows households to control home heating and hot water via an app available on smartphones, tablets or laptops.

The thermostat works with a home's existing gas heating system and includes a hub, receiver and an industrially designed thermostat with an intuitive LED display.

Features of the thermostat include hot water boost, scheduling flexibility, holiday mode, frost protection, text control and a geolocation feature which can send an alert if the heating has been left on.

Nicky Doran, Acting Head of Retail with Bord Gáis Energy, said: "We're very excited to launch Hive Active Heating to the Irish market. It's an advanced solution with a range of really intuitive scheduling features and clever settings but can also help users benefit from real savings."
