A total of ten units in Dublin are to be made available to house homeless families in the Ballymun area.
Refurbishment work on the units in Ballymun Plaza is complete and 10 families are expected to move in this month.
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson, Dessie Ellis TD, has welcomed the news, however he said the new government strategy launched last year will only provide 167 units in Dublin before 2018.
Deputy Ellis said: "With this is in mind we must praise the efforts locally to bring these into use for the purpose of housing 10 homeless families. This is the right approach.
"Housing homeless families in hostels and hotels is costing the council 1000's of euro per month for each family. Housing them properly is real homes is not only the best thing for the family but the best value for money for the council.
"Homelessness is a local problem in Ballymun and across the city and these homes will make a big difference to these families."
