Work has commenced to demolish the last remaining tower block in Ballymun, Dublin.
The final phase to demolish Joseph Plunkett Tower began today, 21 September, and will be carried out using a long reach hydraulic 'nibbler', which will bite its way through the structure.
The method was also used to demolish four of the original towers, and all 29 of the eight- and four-storey blocks. Two 15-storey towers were imploded.
McCallum Brothers is responsible for the demolition project.
The rubble remaining from the scheme is being reused for projects such as road construction, while removable fixtures are being sent for recycling.
Constructed in 1967, Joseph Plunkett Tower was the last of the seven towers to be completed. It contained a total of 90 two- and three-bedroom apartments.
The total scheme had 2,900 apartments.
