The N77 Ballynaslee Realignment Scheme in Kilkenny has officially opened.
The project provides for an improved, realigned 2km section of the N77, which removes a significantly sub-standard section of the existing road and allows for safer overtaking.
The road was part of a Government stimulus programme which was allocated €200,000 in funding this year from Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD said: "The realignment of this stretch of road was required in order to upgrade the previous road. The delivery of a road network that allows us to move around easily is important, so too is the quality of the roads we travel on and our ability to move around them safely.
"Improving transport connectivity between our cities and towns plays a crucial part in our economic recovery. This scheme is located immediately north of the Glanbia dairy processing site in Ballyragget, which is one of the largest of its kind in Europe and is of significant importance to the local economy. Improving road access in this way is important in retaining, developing and attracting businesses like Glanbia within the region."
