Sinn Fein has written to the Environment Minister urging him to approve the construction of 69 new homes in Galway.
The tender contract for Phase One of the Ballymoneen Road Housing Development is currently being finalised, however the tender to cover the full scheme has not been given the go ahead.
Galway West – South Mayo Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh said: "While I welcome the fact that the phase 1 is advancing, I am hugely frustrated that delays within the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government have meant that the full scheme may not proceed at this stage.
"Since January 2015, Galway City Council have been awaiting an official response from the Department on its request for approval to advance the entire scheme and despite repeated efforts from the Local Authority, there has been no response to date.
"Effectively, this means that there could result in two separate tender contracts, placing extra costs on an already over stretched City Council.
"It is completely outrageous for the Department to fail to respond to Galway City Council on such an issue given the magnitude of the Housing crisis facing this city."
