Sinn Féin is calling on the public to attend candlelit vigil to intervene in the NAMA sale of a portion of the Moore Street battlefield site in Dublin.
The vigil will be held at the GPO at 7.30pm tonight, 23 October.
Mr Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD is also urging the government to declare the complete battlefield site around Moore Street a national monument.
Deputy Ó Snodaigh said: "We must extend the site the national monument to incorporate the greatest protection to the full Moore Street battlefield site and preserve it as a cultural quarter. This is especially appropriate given that it’s almost 100 years from when this major event happened, on which is now one of the most historic sites in Ireland.
"The government must play their part in the preservation of our Moore Street 1916 heritage and stipulate that potential new owners give a commitment to protect the new site.
"I'm encouraging people to turn up at the GPO tonight at 7.30 for our candlelit vigil to highlight the importance of the area as well as the threat of the impending sale."
